Questions, answered straight

Everything people ask about Lokr, in plain words.

Nobody else sees who wrote a note.

Notes are wiped after 24 hours.

Android beta now, by email.

What is Lokr?

Lokr is an anonymous, location-based Android app where people pin short notes that others within about 15 km can read; notes show no names or profiles and are wiped after 24 hours. It is in early beta, built in India, starting with college students.

Can anyone find out who wrote a note?

Other people can’t. A note shows its text, tag, time and a rough distance like “Under 1 km away”. No name, username, email, profile or exact location, and nobody can see who liked it. Inside Lokr, notes are linked to your account so we can enforce the rules; we only look at that for safety reports and legal requests.

What happens to a note after 24 hours?

Its text and photo are wiped from the board at 24 hours. The record, with its replies and likes, is deleted within about a day after that. There is no archive.

Does Lokr know where I am?

Only roughly. Your phone rounds your location to about 1 km before sending it, and our server adds random noise on top. Other people only ever see a distance bucket.

What can’t I post?

Phone numbers, emails, handles, links (except .ac.in/.edu/.gov.in sites), abuse, threats, hate or sexual content. The filter catches most of it before it posts and tells you why. See the Moderation page.

How do I get it?

Lokr is an Android beta right now. Request beta access with your email and we’ll email you the APK to install. The Nearby board is live today; College and Work boards are coming.

What do beta testers get?

Send us feedback and bug reports while you test, and you’ll get Lokr’s upcoming premium features free when they launch. Premium isn’t out yet.
